This study examines the interplay between motivation, learning strategies, and accent in English as a Second Language (ESL) learning based on a semi-structured interview with a 25-year-old Vietnamese woman who immigrated to Canada at a young age. Qualitative analysis of interview identified in the participant: (a) primary intrinsic extrinsic, and integrative motivators, shaped by social and familial influences, (b) use of sociocultural-interactive learning strategies, and (c) feelings of insecurity regarding her accent and its impact on her cultural identity. Ultimately, findings highlight participant’s motivations, learning strategies, and accent-related perceptions are interconnected, showing the complexity of each concept for ESL learning.
