Abstract

This podcast explores the intersection between music, cosmology and neuroscience. The discussion begins from the Pythagorean experiment regarding musical intervals, which revealed that harmony arises from numerical ratios between vibrating strings. Following this rationale, the concept of the “music of the spheres” emerged, proposing that celestial bodies move in a harmonious manner. Although this phenomenon is inaudible, it reflects the mathematical structure of the universe. Finally, the podcast transitions from the macrocosmic harmony of the universe to the microcosmic level of the human brain exploring the brain’s response to musical stimuli and their implementation in the context of modern neuroscience. By exploring this relationship, the podcast suggests that the experience of music unites human consciousness with the external harmony of the universe reinterpreting ancient philosophy with modern neuroscience. It is an effort to explore the continuous thread between ancient philosophy and neuroscience under the unifying principle of sound and harmony.
