Abstract
-
“Preservation” is a multi-media work commenting on one’s effort to understand, sympathize and preserve the innocence of their past self. The current self is depicted realistically, as conscious of themself, the past and the symbolisms of the panting, “looking over” it’s past. The cat, a symbolic common denominator, offers an insight to my personal experiences with companionship, social and psychological isolation. The monochromatic display of “past selfs” is further meant to extenuate their importance and “joined” occupancy in their perception by the current. That vivid figure, following a similar philosophy, is rendered realistically to appear as alive, invasive, into the otherwise color-distorted environment, joining into the scenery as both participant and spectator. The blue outline of a figure, looming behind the other elements, acts as an ongoing questioning and continuance of selfs, addressing the constant exploration of the past and its effect in shaping a person’s ever-changing identity.
