Abstract

"My work displays a person waiting for their turn while swinging on a web made of rope, waiting completely passive for the right time to step down and begin something. It has to do with experiential self-isolation in my childhood and with feeling unable to achieve goals. We need to create the circumstances to change or achieve something, we need to act first, a lot of time we need to change our actions before our mind and thought changes too, waiting desperately for something we want to happen it is not the right tactic.
The audience does no experience the performance in person, even though it is a live act the audience is watching the performance through a television screen, I have my back turned to them, they can see me but I cannot see them, I can hear them, but they are not aware because when you are alone become a great observer because there is nothing else you can do, in the contrary when you are being observed you are not aware so you say whatever without being consciously aware that you are being heard by a stranger. With the difference that in this work the rest of the people notice the one dislocated from the maze.
The ""web"" hanging from the ceiling is made out rope knitted with multiple knots; it shows someone being trapped consciously but they are comfortable there, it is not forced they do not want to escape. The facade of the sculpture resembles a uterus by the way the knots are formed together, the inside of a womb is a safe space for the baby, it is not needed by it to do anything everything is provided to it by the surrounding organs belonging to the mother.
The space I choose for the installation is industrial with pipes exposed which creates a significant contrast with the natural fiber material materials used the rope is made of. The inspiration of hanging myself from the ceiling came from Carolle Schneemann performance ""Up to and Including Her Limits""."
