Abstract
-
This paper explores the reasons behind Greece’s non recognition of the Palestinian state through a constructivist theoretical framework. It argues that the best interpretation of the Greek state’s motivation is provided by constructivism, as it takes into account aspects such as historical precedent, identities, individual actors and state socialisation effectively addressing the issue multidimensionally. To tackle this issue, I analysed speeches and announcements from the Greek Parliament, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs as well as from the Israeli and US presidents aiming to uncover how they promote or shape constructivist ideas in their rhetoric.
