Abstract
-
Within the European Union (EU), policymakers, scientists and industry lobbyists work together towards a shared goal: the regulation of the chemicals known as Endocrine Disruptors (EDs). Focusing on the economic implications of potential bans for the industrial sector, this paper aims to explore the reasons behind the slow progress of the European Union while focusing on the interactions between the lobbying industry and the European policymakers. I argue that a meaningful regulatory advancement will remain unlikely until a balance is reached in the power relations among the stakeholders- a balance that could be structured through the framework of Reflective Equilibrium for interdisciplinary collaboration.
