Design of a custom typeface representing a radio program from Onassis Stegi Radio station, using the sound and characteristics of the music radio program to create the typeface design. The typeface was designed using honey as my original material and further developed and refined digitally.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is threat to public health, driving the need for new antibacterial agents. This study evaluated cinnamaldehyde and ten structural analogues against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Antibacterial activity was assessed through high-throughput screening, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) determination, and checkerboard assays. Hydroxylated aldehyde derivatives showed overall enhanced activity, particularly against E. coli, while most ketone analogues exhibited reduced efficacy. Structure–activity relationship (SAR) analysis suggested the significance of aldehyde retention and hydroxyl substitution. Synergy studies with standard antibiotics revealed mostly indifferent interactions with an exception of additive and antagonistic effects. These findings offer insights for designing cinnamaldehyde-based antibacterial compounds.
I created an Antibullying and Body Positivity Campaign targeted to young adults. I designed three posters, an informative brochure with a testimonial approach, a web banner, and a large-scale printed banner. The design had an illustrative approach, and the design consisted of the deliverables mentioned above including the brand identity of the campaign.
Design and art direction of the history book: “A History of the American College of Greece” written by Giles Milton. Given the text and the visual content from the original book, I re-designed the work. I designed it by manipulating the color of the images, focusing on the use and design of typography, and completing the binding process.
This work, produced within the framework of the Biomedical Sciences Capstone course, presents a novel way to cluster, classify and detect microglia activation in mice brain slices with the use of confocal and fluorescence lifetime imaging
microscopy (FLIM). By collecting multi-modal data from the acute murine viral model of G2019S and WT LRRK2, we proposed a continuous microglia activation scale additional to the already existing multiclass microglia activation grouping,
with the use of lifetime data and 3D cell images.
Abstract: Despite the recognized importance of teaching effectiveness in higher education (HE) for improving student outcomes, satisfaction, and institutional reputation, limited research has examined student perceptions on the topic. This study aimed to explore the key characteristics of an effective instructor from the student perspective, using quantitative and qualitative data, and how these qualities relate to student-, instructor-, and course-related variables. One hundred twenty-four undergraduate students from Deree ACG participated in an online survey by completing instructor-related questions from the institution's Course Evaluation Questionnaire and an open-ended question designed to explore their perceptions of instructor qualities that resonate with effective teaching practices. The findings indicate that student engagement was a predictor of academic achievement and positively corelated with autonomy support and teaching effectiveness. Ordinal regression analysis suggested student engagement had some predictive value over academic achievement. Students identified emotional support, creative teaching styles, and communication skills as important characteristics of effective teaching. The findings can inform teaching practices, professional development programs, and institutional policies, to improve student satisfaction and learning outcomes.
Herstory is an art activism movement, built to empower and educate people about females in the world on art and design. Graphic Design has always been a male dominated field, and many female designers have been overshadowed by their male peers and mentors. One such woman is April Greiman, whose name cannot be mentioned without referring to her mentor Wolfgang Weingart. This project is an animation-motion design campaign about Greiman’s style design and history. By following the Design Thinking methodology, the campaign's goal is to capture Greiman’s design, ideology, and history through subtle visual elements.
Forty native speakers of Greek and 33 of English viewed 24 images of items with masculine or feminine grammatical gender in Greek. The study, conducted in English, asked half the participants to personify each image before selecting three adjectives from a list of ten; the rest selected without personifying. No clear grammatical gender effect was found. Both groups used more feminine adjectives for natural and inanimate images—Greek speakers more so for natural, and English speakers for inanimate. Grammatically masculine pictures received more feminine adjectives by both groups, and the non-personification condition used more feminine adjectives overall.
The work to be submitted is an evaluation of SHEIN – a popular e-commerce platform – from a user experience perspective. The main aim of the work is to assess how well this platform abides by the 10 usability heuristics created by Jakob Nielsen. These 10 heuristics are principles established to ensure an intuitive and user-friendly design.
Schinias National Park, and Vravrona wetland, both protected Natura 2000 areas in Greece, were visited to analyze their water quality and overall ecosystem characteristics through biological and chemical methods. Water samples from three designated sites per location were tested for pH, conductivity, salinity, dissolved oxygen (DO), nitrates, phosphates, and oxidation-reduction potential (ORP). The results showed higher salinity and conductivity near the sea as expected. Microscopic observations of water samples revealed rich levels of plankton, and field observations showed characteristic vegetation and wildlife of a coastal ecosystem and wetland. The results confirm Schinias and Vravrona have rich biodiversity and a healthy aquatic ecosystem, highlighting the importance of their conservation.
