This paper explores John Dewey’s vision of democracy and analyzes its applications in today’s world. As a pragmatist, Dewey employed a problem-oriented approach to social affairs, hence “democracy as a cooperative experiment”. His ideas to be discussed are the theory of inquiry, the notion of growth, and democracy as a way of living. Modern readings have attempted to revive his ideas for possible desirable effects on political affairs and individual self-development in this globalized world. I shall argue how the critical stance central to Dewey’s philosophy is useful in rethinking modern social ills and fostering global harmony amongst diverse groups.
I was inspired by Albert Camus’ “The Plague” to write my own narrative/poem on how society may react to an unknown force. To make my project more innovative, I chose a poetic style to paint a figurative picture and appeal to readers’ emotions. With the “Silent Killer” as a metaphor to an infectious disease, the narrative captures the physical, emotional and psychological challenges faced both on an individual and collective level. Although my narrative does not target a specific pathogen, it indicates the general societal reaction to any widespread infectious disease. Finally, I drew the illustration on the title page of the book which portrays a grim reaper in a clock to illuminate the metaphors of death and time.
“Purity in Symbols” is a video installation that consists of a 3-minute video art projection on three wire sculptures that are hanging from the ceiling. The sculptures ideally should spin around during the projection. The project discuses truth and lies with shots of nature representing the truth and shots of an acting face representing lies. The sculptures are inspired from nature fantasy creatures.
After 28 years since the first Conference of Parties (COP) and numerous policies adopted in the context of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), it is an interesting fact that greenhouse gas emissions persist on an ascending path. The following research paper is trying to answer the question: “To what extent have parties evolved in terms of ambition from 1995 to 2022?” This question will be approached both quantitatively and qualitatively, through content analysis of the Conference of Parties reports on decisions. This work aims to contribute to future research on the “hows” and “whens” of climate science reflected in policy-making, what ambition means for policy intensity and other questions on the climate nexus.

Nietzsche dwells on the origins of bad and good: they were not always used morally but simply as descriptors of reality. How did morals came about? The belief that people have free will is to blame so that the weak can hold the strong accountable behind their resentment. Good became evil. Strength, and enacting our will however provides vitality, which is the Nietzschean essence of life. But is this convincing?
Childhood obesity and overweight rates are reaching epidemic levels, placing children at great risk of later physical and psychosocial harm. Screen time, in particular, has emerged as a prominent cause of childhood obesity in recent years, whereby several hours of continuous exposure lead to sedentary lifestyles, lack of physical exercise, and slower metabolic rates. Food advertisements on screens, disguised as entertainment, enhance feelings of hunger, increase consumption of highly caloric and processed foods, while suppressing feelings of satiety. Healthy hormonal and sleep patterns are strongly affected by intense blue light, heavily disrupting metabolic rates. Parental interventions are being discussed.
For women to reach their full potential, their right to equal pay must be protected. In my research, I defined wage equally according to European law, i.e. the right to equal pay for equal work or work of equal value. My study focused on case C-624/19 of Tesco Stores. My aim was to understand the effects of the preliminary ruling of the European Court of Justice regarding the case, studying the annual reports of the company from 2018 to 2023 and investigating in what way the specific case further affected the European legislation regarding the topic of wage cap.
As individuals, impression formation through non-verbal behaviors is an ongoing-process in our daily life influencing key decisions on how we perceive others and making sense of what we observe. In reality, non-verbal cues are emblematic and utilized by individuals in the sense of “reading” others and analyzing other’s body language as well as facial cues. The aim of this paper is to shed lights and assess the area of impression formation accuracy through non-verbal behaviors in three components.
