The phrase “Woman, Life, Freedom” rose as an international call to action after the unfortunate passing of Mahsa Amini in 2022. This research analyzes how two major global news outlets, CNN and Al-Jazeera, portray the Iranian movements in 2022 after Mahsa Amini’s’ death. More specifically, it investigates how these outlets portrayed the events by examining the repetition of keywords and the tone of the reporting, determining if their representations were biased or non-biased and if they were neutral, positive or negative.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) demands alternative strategies beyond conventional antibiotics. This study evaluates curcumin and five synthesized derivatives as photosensitizers for antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and S. aureus. UV-Vis spectroscopy characterized their absorption profiles, while antibacterial efficacy was assessed using high-throughput growth inhibition assays under blue light irradiation. Results revealed that structural modifications influenced both photophysical properties and antibacterial performance. Several derivatives demonstrated improved or comparable efficacy to native curcumin, particularly against Gram-positive bacteria. Findings highlight structure-activity relationships critical for enhancing aPDT agents and suggest avenues for further optimization in treating superficial bacterial infections.
The rise of AI tools has transformed academic help-seeking (AHS), offering non-judgmental alternatives to traditional academic support. While academic self-efficacy facilitates AHS, its relationship with AI use is unclear. I examined how self-efficacy relates to AHS from instructors and AI, and the role of fear of judgment. A survey of 108 undergraduates revealed that self-efficacy encouraged instructor AHS but discouraged AI AHS. Students preferred seeking help from instructors of a different gender, and age positively correlated with self-efficacy. Fear of judgment was not related to any outcomes. Findings highlight the need to examine AI integration to complement traditional academic support.
The petroleum industry is a sector that faces several challenges. The most
important of them are volatile market conditions, supply chain inefficiencies and
rising operational costs. To remain competitive, companies are progressively
adopting advanced Information Systems (IS). More specifically, Supply Chain
Management (SCM), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Internet of Things
(IoT), Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning (AI/ML) and Business
Analytics/Big Data are some of the most useful IS in oil industry. These
technologies play a significant role in logistics optimization, safety and decisionmaking improvement and in reducing expenses. However, their implementation
comes with challenges. The most worth noticing are high costs, cybersecurity
risks and industry resistance to digital transformation. This study examines the
role of IS in the petroleum industry, assessing its impact on efficiency,
competitiveness and future developments.
The present work involves a research study that profiled two speakers of two Germanic languages between English, Swedish, and Dutch, who were interviewed on their approach to learning the third language in that group. Its purpose was to discern potential correlations between learning strategies implemented for language learning within the same language family. Results indicated stronger inclinations for learning via the social domain based on structural, semantic, and cognitive inferences from the known languages to the target language, which led to improved motivation for proactive engagement with the target language.
This study examined how language, proficiency, and cognitive load impact emotionality during traumatic autobiographical memory (AM) retrieval. Greek native speakers (N=107) recalled a traumatic AM in their first language (L1), second language (L2; English), or L1 under cognitive demanding conditions (simple visuospatial task), while undergoing physiological EDA assessment. Notably, our findings showed that lower L2 proficiency – not L2 alone – reduced emotional intensity. Additionally, cognitive load during L1 recall significantly lowered emotionality, supporting resource-dependent emotional processing models. These findings reveal the interplay between proficiency and cognitive demands in shaping bilingual emotional processing, with implications for clinical and therapeutic settings.
The paper discusses key principles and theories of brand management. As it also analyze the relationship between fashion, society, and the self and what role does luxury fashion brands play in the society and for one self.
This research investigates the key principles and evolving theories underlying luxury brand management—an intricate field where exclusivity, heritage, and innovation converge to serve the expectations of high-end consumers. As luxury brands navigate contemporary values such as sustainability and inclusivity, their
role extends far beyond that of traditional status symbols. In 2024, these brands actively shape cultural narratives, influence societal trends, and serve as platforms for individual expression. This project aims to examine the complex relationship between fashion, society, and the self, while also analyzing the significance of luxury fashion brands both within society and as tools for self-construction. By bridging cultural analysis with brand strategy, the study offers insight into how luxury continues to evolve and remain relevant in an increasingly value-driven world.
From the first biscuit baked in the family oven to 102 years of developing and becoming a market leader. Papadopoulos is a case study for this project with a focus on biscuits. In this work the role of marketing communications was explored in a context of the overall marketing mix of the brand. Apart from that, Papadopoulos’ positioning, target segments, marketing mix, consumer’s behaviour within biscuits category, competition and Greek market were analysed. The discussion was facilitated by a deeper identification of the MC mix that Papadopoulos invests more in altogether with selecting one recent brand’s MC campaign and its strategy’s evaluation. At the end two recommendations to the brand’s strategy were provided to enhance its perceived differentiation: a brand community effort to boost an affective engagement and catch attention and CSR for improving firm performance and supporting a social cause.
The overturning of Roe v. Wade has brought significant attention to abortion laws, especially in Texas, where strict bans are in place. Given Texas’s strong religious identity it is vital to explore the interplay between religion and abortion law. Thus, this research examines the religious language present in the Whole Woman's Health, v. Jackson case’s amicus briefs and the influence that the amici had in the court’s ruling. Using discourse and quantitative content analysis with the Wcopyfind plagiarism software it shows that both sides used religious arguments, with pro-choice briefs emphasizing free exercise rights. However, the amici had little impact on the court’s ruling.
